Breaking
. . . the purpose is beyond the end you figured,
and is altered in fulfillment. -- T.S. Eliot, "Little Gidding"
BREAKING
The purpose breaks
open. Waves break
on rocks, moved by
a purpose they need
not know. And I am
brought to a moment
of knowing, effortless
and timely as the pebbles
at my feet, receiving
their shape from the sea.
